  Extremely late comment but as long as PvP is *NOT* ranked, I won't be against this idea. Ranked modes are a no-go for me.

  hmm would said 2-8 players like 4vs4 or 1v1 as an example, never 1v1v1v1v1v1, on 2 separated maps, where you can send harder waves to the opposition, like how the enemies in the new dlc were mutated.

  This could be really fun. You would probably have to fix the tech level in the game lobby though, so players can focus on resource management and combat. Also, creature spawns would have to be centralized so they affect all players roughly equally.

  I would love to play against others in a PvP match. Imagine fighting against each other, leading alien creeps into enemy bases, build own units in factory or teleport aliens from different worlds to fight side by side... This game has so much potential!
  But at first... Co-op when? ;)

  if your going to do pvp have rift breakers vs planet defenders....
  you pick your side you with the human or the planet.
  planet defenders have a boss monster avatar and create monster spawners to attack emplacements summon waves of creatures and mine resources to produce better mobs to send at the rift breakers.

  having a rival rifter with ''defend the ecosystem'' vs ''fack the ecosystem'' and then using sonic beacons or something to lure planetary creature to attack the other side while you creep nuclear towers closer and closer or some silly crap like that could be fun
  
  makes me think of the only cartoons where they threw all kinds of stuff at each other somehow

  I dont know if this would be a feature that people would use much but if the implementation is trivial and overall does not negatively affect work on co-op or other portions of the game then I dont see any real reason why it shouldnt be included.
