A middle ground between campaign and survival
Campaign is too story driven and easy while survival is too fast paced to properly enjoy late game tech unlocks or building big bases.
There should be a middle ground that combines these two game modes, a campaign with no story or set objectives but rather, every outpost is a difficult survival map instance that you need to complete in order to get resources or bonuses from it.
This would result in a game mode that lets us build a huge awesome base with late game tech on the main map, and give us the opportunity to use that arsenal in extremely difficult survival maps instead of always starting from scratch. These survival maps could have randomized modifiers that make them easier or harder so people can push themselves and their loadout to the limit if they want to.

Pretty much my main wish for a mode addition.
Especially since Survival doesnt feature the outpost system and i kind of wished like a free game in campaign, where story is disabled and i can also research in any order no matter any objectives, have survival options etc.
I guess you would call that freeplay as an option for campaign.
I guess adding an option to a new campaign session this would be cool and adding all the survival options to that too when you activate it. -

Joakim SchackI would love this - I play on the hardest difficulty in the campaign, but even then, everything gets laughably easy in the midgame where you have unlocked your core weaponry. But why not combine the difficulty of survival with the enginuity of the campaign - create extremely hard small maps against a combination of bosses, environmental hazards and repeating waves of enemies that a 5-sec spam of 30-ish T3 towers couldn't simply nullify. A place where you actually need tactics and a fully decked out mech

BakurioI agree but more in general sense: making new gamemodes and then balancing them is a lot of work... on the other hand opening the game to the steam workshop for maps where players can share their own ideas for maps or even scenarios would be both much easier and probably much more of a player satisfaction.
But if you do want to stay in control of what can be done in the game, let me paste a simple mode concept here to support the original poster:
Your base is predetermined in place, you have natural barriers blocking off your space except for the area where the wildlife attacks you from (this can be 1 area for easy, 2 for normal, 3 or more for harder difficulties). By advancing with your character in the direction you conquer more space to build for yourself and more recources (since the start area recources are limited), maybe opening yourself up to more pathways by doing so. This mode can also be integrated for the planned multiplayer, with the same or a different area to start in.
